Overview

FARM2FORK HACK is focused strategically into the SEE region (farmers, cooperatives, food producers and short food supply chains), while inviting pan-European “farm to fork” solution providers, innovators and enthusiasts, to propose innovative solutions which will have a very positive impact on areas identified as most affected by the crisis.

List of ideas that was worked on

The Farm2Fork Hack participation is open for any European solution provider (Startups and SMEs), innovator and enthusiast (working under the legal entity), being able to propose innovative and  implementable solution which will result in (i) minimizing negative effects of COVID pandemic or (ii) increase resilience of the food production and food supply systems in pandemic

situations.

FARM2FORK HACK

Fauna Smart Technologies

Fauna Smart Technologies is creating products and services for regenerative farming practices. They provide farmers with science and technology systems to grow food and rebuild biodiversity, heal the planetary ecosystems, starting with agro-ecosystems, all that while they are stabilizing yield and increasing their revenue.

Their product consists of a pregnancy test for plants! When immunity is active, plants are capable to defend themselves and there is no need for further (over)spraying of (bio)pesticides. Many years of scientific research identified molecular markers of active plant immunity. Fauna Smart Technologies created a system for farmers to detect these markers and reduce pesticide use.

As the second runner up of this challenge, Fauna Smart Technologies was registered and promoted in DIH AGRIFOOD COOPERATION PLATFORM and SmartAgriHubs Innovation portal, mentoring from international mentors, dedicated article and publishable catalogue, opportunity to contact interested end-users and investors, the announcement at the main Farm2Fork hack event and a prize of 2.000 €.

Cropshepherd

Crop Shepherd is composed of a team of engineering students with a background in agriculture. They are working to develop a robotic solution for organic farmers to help them achieve more sustainable farming practices. Crop Shepherd developed a lightweight, autonomous and GPS guided, solar and battery powered robot. The robot „P.A.S.T.I.R.“, uses Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision to differentiate weeds from the planted crop then uses a powerful laser to destroy them.

As the winner team of this challenge, CropShepherd was registered and promoted in the DIH AGRIFOOD COOPERATION PLATFORM and SmartAgriHubs Innovation portal. They received mentoring from international mentors, a dedicated article and publishable catalogue, opportunity to contact interested end-users and investors, the announcement at the main Farm2Fork hack event and a prize of 3.000 €.

Solmeyea

As the 3rd place winner of this challenge, Solmeyea was registered and promoted in DIH AGRIFOOD COOPERATION PLATFORM and SmartAgriHubs Innovation portal, mentoring from international mentors, dedicated article and publishable catalogue, opportunity to contact interested end-users and investors, the announcement at the main Farm2Fork hack event and a prize of 1.000 €.

Solmeyea produces food ingredients with high nutritional value, from aquatic sources and in the most sustainable way by applying circular bio-economy principles and focusing on the 4 main cycles of the bio-circular economy (Co2, water, bioplastics, food/protein). The food is produced at a significant lower cost and with a lower footprint.
