IoT Digital Innovation Hub

Spain

Could you please tell us in a few words about your Digital Innovation Hub and Innovation Experiment?

Our IoT Digital Innovation Hub has been created to develop pioneering projects with the most advanced technologies. We aim to promote new products and services, which have been designed by combining innovative techniques from various technologies. Likewise, our Innovation Experiment is based on the digitalisation process of the Pago de Carraovejas wine company, from the wine value chain to the consumer's enjoyment, to optimise resources, reduce costs and improve quality and safety. To do so we are implementing, among other things, a platform for product traceability at all stages.

How did you find out about the Open Call and what made you apply?

Due to our constant presence and participation in different activities linked to the development of disruptive technologies, we found out about the Expand call through CARSA and SMART AGRI HUBS | Iberia. The real reason behind the application is marked by the concrete need in our rural area to access new technologies such as IoT and artificial intelligence.

What are you most excited about SmartAgriHubs?

We are very excited to start working on a consortium like SmartAgriHubs, considering the different actors involved. Everything went smoothly while preparing the funding arrangements, and we hope to keep it like that in the future.

What is, to you, a Digital Innovation Hub?

For us, a Digital Innovation Hub is a technological space where we provide knowledge, experience, and strategies for small and medium-sized companies in their digitalisation process.

Could you explain how is your project contributing to a sustainable agriculture?

Our project is contributing to the digitalisation of the wine sector, a significant economic sector for Spain. Technology not only contributes to the efficiency of processes, but sustainability is also one of the benefits of the application of technology, such as the case of Pago de Carraovejas. In this case we are designing a solution to increase the load capacity of each pallet, thus reducing the number of pallets needed in shipments. By doing so, the manufacture of pallets is reduced and, therefore, the environmental impact it generates.

Netrocks DIH

Germany

Could you please tell us in a few words about your Digital Innovation Hub?

We are the Netrocks DIH from Osnabrück, the north-west of Germany, accompanied by our partners Innovate and DCG (German Couching Society) DIH. Together we developed the "One-Agrar" platform. With this platform our goal is to make digital conferences and trade fairs a bit more socially attractive, especially for a generation of future farmers, mechanical engineers and agri - enthusiasts: the digital natives. The technology is simply based on matchmaking and social tribe building. It promotes especially the activity and interaction of the participants. We would like to invite all of you to join our journey. Since the beginning of the project, we have been streaming regularly on our Twitch channel to get to know the community and set up the platform accordingly. Please follow us on twitch.tv/oneagrar.

How did you find out about the Open Call and what made you apply?

Last year, we organised the Farmhack hackathon with our partner the innovate! DIH which was also supported by SAH in the Open Call RESPOND. We were very excited by the support received from SAH and the interaction within the community, so we were eager to get more involved.

What was the experience with SmartAgriHubs so far? What are you most excited about?

First of all, we are very grateful. Without the financial support from SmartAgriHubs, we would not have been able to develop our platform. This is a huge opportunity for the agricultural sector to attract new young people. We are also very fascinated by the cooperation and the family atmosphere of the SmartAgriHubs community. Being part of other funding programs with different projects, we know what it means to be left aside or to have to find all the information in a laborious manner. With SmartAgriHubs is different, you find a personal contact, clear responsibilities, and a clear attitude of support. Of course, this is important, as it allows us to concentrate fully on development.

What is, to you, a Digital Innovation Hub?

For us, DIHs are the central drivers of the digitalization of agriculture. As an interface to the regional networks, you serve as a contact and coordinator. The DIHs bring together the players who would not find each other without further ado.

In addition to the main goal of networking with various actors, we also drive our own projects that can potentially lead to IEs, such as platforms, events or hackathons.

Could you explain how is your project contributing to a sustainable agriculture?

Sustainability is the main topic for the younger generations. By definition, the digital natives are geared towards the sustainable design of their personal and professional living environment. At One-Agrar, these issues are therefore always brought in the spotlight. One could say that One-Agrar will be a platform for everyone who wants to combine agriculture and sustainability.

ODYC DIH

Belgium

Could you please tell us in a few words about your Digital Innovation Hub or Innovation Experiment?

ODYC is newly created DIH aiming to help agricultural stakeholders in getting digital farming techniques more used in a sustainable way. More specifically, ODYC is helping major players in the potato industry in developing innovative measuring system and business models.

How did you find out about the Open Call and what made you apply?

The open call was mentioned in several newsletters and online, so that’s how we picked it up. It was the right time for us to engage. With our past experience and the creation of the company at the same time more or less as the open call was opened, we immediately wanted to apply. The open call meant to help us in expanding our expertise further and engaging directly with the SAH network now and in the future.

What was the impact of the Open Call with SmartAgriHubs ?

SAH is for us the window to grow and to get to know more people and of course to have a kickstart with the funding.

What is, to you, a Digital Innovation Hub? Or an Innovation Experiment?

A DIH is a company glue-ing IT knowledge/companies with agricultural companies to create new innovative solutions helping all stakeholders.

Could you explain how is your project contributing to a sustainable agriculture?

In the project we want to develop an innovative business model around data sharing. We want to have a win-win-win situation between farmer, industry & machine construction companies. Data sharing is essential to get a sustainable agriculture.
